Food is Medicine
The expression you are what you eat, also applies to the health of your body. Vitamins, minerals and
enzymes are essential to proper nourishment that enhances your body's health. Poor nutrition adversely
affects your health and longevity.
Many people might comment, "I eat a good diet, with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Why would
I need to take additional supplements?"
The answer is - by the time fresh produce actually reaches your dinner plate, it may have been sprayed,
waxed, irradiated, stored for weeks, trucked to the store, then stored there until put out on the shelves
to be purchased.
Many vegetables and fruits are "gassed" to make them look ripe even though they were picked long before
the plant was able to add the final nutritional touches that finish the ripening process and add the delicious
flavor that is now often missing from fresh fruits and vegetables.
Unless you grow your own food, which most of us do not have the time or inclination to do, the food you
purchase in the supermarkets has already lost most of its life force and is nutrient poor.
Even if you could purchase fresh produce directly from the fields, in most cases the soil that produces
the food has been depleted of essential minerals and nutrients by years of over production, over use of
chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
A long time concern is that the soil in which our food is grown is depleted of the trace minerals and
necessary nutrients to build healthy bodies as evidenced by the following.
The following two quotes were taken from the Congressional Record, 74th Congress, 2nd session (1936!). If
Congress had concerns about the soil being depleted 69 years ago, after all these years without being replenished,
just imagine how much more depleted it is now.
and
Dr. Linus Pauling, two time Nobel Prize winner commented, ..."You can trace every sickness, every disease and
every ailment to a mineral deficiency."
Not only do we find our diet is lacking in essential ingredients. We also find the foods we eat include
many things we would rather not put into our bodies.
Much has been published regarding the danger of toxic chemicals finding their way into the food chain and
the possible links between pesticides and cancer.
Preservatives are routinely used in foods that are packaged to extend the shelf life of these products
(for the convenience of grocery providers, not to enhance health). Add to that new concern that our fruits,
vegetables, meat, poultry, fish and dairy products are being irradiated to prevent bacterial contamination
and/or are bioengineered to ship, store and keep longer - but at what cost to your health?
How can any of these practices enhance health and provide adequate nutrition to the
body?
The answer is that they can not!
We have moved away from the time when people had the luxury of growing their own vegetables and fruits.
Can you remember the taste of a fresh picked tomato, still warm from the sun? What was it like to pick
an apple directly from the tree and bite into its sweet juicy flesh?
Perhaps you were born within the last thirty years and have missed this spectacular taste experience,
unless you have been inspired to grow a few patio veggies. The same things that made these foods taste
sensational are the elements our bodies need and crave in order to build healthy bones, muscles, nerves,
hair, connective tissues, and fresh, beautiful skin.
Nourishment of the whole being (and health) must begin at the cellular level. Each cell during a typical
day takes in nutrients and creates waste products that must be removed and washed from the body.
Without proper nutritional support these cells become intoxicated with their own waste products and the
cycle of dis-ease begins. Over time this toxic environment at the cellular
level can cause the body to become fatigued, develop discomfort, allow illness to take hold, and eventually
can result in debilitating signs that we call disease and aging.
The cells wear out and die by suffocating in their own wastes. The good news is that these cells are replaced
by brand new cells created from the food you eat, the water you drink and the air that you breathe.
The problem is that if the raw materials provided to the body are missing vital nutrients, the new cells have
to make do with elements that can be salvaged from the dying cells and these scavenged components often are
less than perfect or distorted. They can not produce healthy new cells due to a lack of the vital ingredients
necessary.
In June of 2002, the AMA has reversed its long time stance that you can obtain enough nourishment from
the food you eat without supplementing your diet with vitamins. The American Medical Association is now
advising all adults to take at least one multivitamin pill each day. Nearly 80% of Americans do not eat
the minimum recommended five helpings of fruits and vegetables daily required to provide sufficient
amounts of essential nutrients. Research now shows that people who get enough vitamins may be able to
prevent such common chronic illnesses as cancer, heart disease and osteoporosis according to Dr Robert H.
Fletcher and Dr Kathleen M. Fairfield of Harvard University who wrote the new AMA guidelines.
Over a period of approximately six years your body renews. Over time, each and every cell in your body dies, then is completely replaced with new cells.
These new cells are created from the nourishment that you feed your body, plus any missing
elements that can be salvaged from the dying cells before these dead cells are flushed out of the body.
Wouldn't you like to know that the new cells your body makes to replace the worn out ones are
vibrantly healthy cells? They can be with the proper nutritional support, abundant pure water
and clean air.
In this era, the need for additional supplements to the food that we consume is important.
It is not enough to consume the all of the nutrients your body requires. These also must be broken
down through the process of digestion, assimilated into the blood stream and and then carried
throughout the body to nourish the organs, tissues and cells.
Digestion begins when food is put into your mouth and chewing mixes the food with the saliva.
This process contines to break down the components of your food as enzymes are mixed with the
food during digestion.
Enzymes deliver nutrients, carry away toxic waste, digest food, purify the blood, deliver hormones,
balance cholesterol and triglyceride levels and feed the brain. A shortage or lack of enzymes will
equate to poor digestion.
A few enzymes are produced by the body, but this process slows down at around the age of 20,
then tapers off to minimal production as the body ages. When coupled with life's stresses, the
result can be lowered resistance, illness and evenutally a shortened lifespan.
Enzymes are the key to life. All plant and animal food in the raw state contains the natural
enzymes necessary to promote proper digestion. To get enzymes from our food we must eat the
food in its natural raw state. The required "raw" state is the problem. Enzymes can not tolerate
heat. Every day, every meal, we force our body into digesting dead, enzyme-less foods. The
human body depends on proper digestion of the foods we eat.
In order for the body to function properly, it must have enough proper nutrients, and it must
be able to use the nutrients it takes in. This means that athe nutrients must be in liquid form
to be easily assimilated - this is why chewing food properly to mix it with saliva is such an
important part of the digestion process. The body must also have plenty of pure water
(sorry, but soft drinks don't count) to flush waste products out of the body. Undigested
foods can not be used by the body. The waste produced by cellular metabolism and food that
has not been properly digested become toxic when they remain in the body.
Many researchers are convinced that virtually all diseases can be traced to missing or faulty
enzymes, vitamins and minerals resulting in indadequate nourishment. Inadequate nourishment
and poor assimilation of what we do eat also can trigger food cravings and a tendency to
over-eat, causing weight gain.
Over a number of years we have tried many nutritional supplements. We only recommend what we have
personally found to be extremely beneficial and represent the very best in nutritional support.
Below is a short list of the some of our favorite products - the ones that we in our home and
use daily.
--Liquid Nutrition. A pleasant tasting liquid concentrate containing 120 vital nutrients, and phytonutrients,
plus all of the essential minerals needed for creation of healthy tissue at the cellular level.
--Enzy-Mega: An enzyme supplement taken with meals to aid assimilation of all types of food, protein,
carbohydrates and fats. Aids digestion and assimilation and helps to relieve digestive distress from
food that would otherwise pass through the body undigested.
In my personal experience, I noticed several nice side benefits with the EnzyMega as well. "Acid indigestion"
has become a thing of the past. Food cravings have disappeared because more nutrients are absorbed and
assimilated from the food we eat. As our needs for nutrients are being met, we noted that this is especially
helpful in maintaining an ideal body weight because it is easier to eat only what we really need to supply
our body's energy and maintenance requirements.
--Caucasicum: An amazing probiotic formula that contains 11 species of probiotics, good bacteria that
support healthy digestion and that promote intestinal health. This is especially important after antibiotic
therapy which basically destroys the normal flora in the intestines. It helps to protect the intestines
from invasion by "bad bacteria" that may be in the food chain, by not allowing them to get a chance to get
a foot hold in the intestines. It also aids in the absorption of nutrients from the colon.
--MSM: Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane. This organic sulfur is needed by the body for building new tissue and
elasticity of the cell membrane (allowing nutrients in and toxins to get out and be released).
--A broad spectrum antioxidant works at the cellular level to combat free radical damage and provides
natural health protection at the cellular level. Take care of your cells so they can take care of you.
--Visual support - each capsule contains 120 mg of lutein, 20 mg of bilberry, and 100 mg of blueberry powder.
These nutrients were shown, in vivo (human) studies, to help with macular degeneration and their success
has been reported in the American Eye Institute Journal!.
--Cardiovascular support - proven in human studies to address three important heart health concerns.
--Support for joints and felxibility - provides the research recommended dosage of glucosamine. This advanced
formula also includes an exclusive blend of herbs and antioxidants to help improve glucosamine uptake and
combat the effects of free radical damage, proven effective in promoting and maintaining healthy joint function.
--Sleep soundly - Don't let tense muscles and the stresses of your day keep you awake at night. Gently
soothes away tension helping you to sleep and rest more deeply. A proprietary formula consisting of natural
herbs including valerian, kava, passion flower and hops. Wake up rested and alert.
--Nutrition especially designed for kids - 20 crucial vitamins and minerals formulated with fructose
compounding to aid in absorption, great tasting cherry taste.
--Balanced vitamin pack helps make up the balance of vital nutrients your diet often misses. Formulated
with fructose compounding mineral delivery system which pre-binds minerals to a fructose molecule for
easier absorption by the body.
