It has been said that enzymes are the protein molecules responsible for certain functions in the body such as digesting food, building bones and other tissues, and aiding in detoxification. A protein molecule is actually the carrier of enzyme activity.

Think of the analogy that the protein molecule is like a light bulb and that enzymes are the electrical current that make the light bulb work. But how does all this tie in with nutrition?

The natural foods that we eat contain their own enzymes and are healthy and great for your body - at least until you cook, microwave, or process them. The food then becomes like the light bulb with no electrical current to make it do its job.

Cooking our food at temperatures over 118 degrees, microwaving, or processing (think long shelf life) kills all the enzymes in that food. We can eat all the healthy food and take all the vitamins and supplements we want but unless the enzymes are there, the food will be ineffective in maintaining a healthy body.

The body is born with its own store of digestive enzymes. Another way to think of it is like having your own bank account of enzymes. By putting cooked, microwaved, and processed foods (foods with no live enzymes left) into the body it is then forced to draw on its own account of enzymes, both metabolic and digestive, to do the job.

Eventually we deplete our account and the body has to completely rely on itself, pulling from the enzyme and immune system to digest food instead of rebuilding the body and fighting illness.

Many of today's food allergies stem from the lack of certain enzymes.

  1. Joint pain and gout come from undigested proteins, fats and minerals that form uric acid crystals that in turn get caught in joints.
  2. Yeast and fungal growth can start with undigested foods in the blood stream and are compounded by the white flour and sugars that we eat which feed the yeast and fungus.
  3. Extreme fatigue may be caused by an inability to digest proteins and fats which cause the blood cells to clump together and not circulate like they should. When the blood is clumped it can't carry as much oxygen and can result in fatigue and slow, muddled thinking. The white blood cells have a much more difficult time moving around in order to maintain the immune system when they are caught in the sluggish, clumped blood.

These are just a few of the many examples of what can and does happen to our bodies as a direct result of what we ingest.

This may give you the idea that you'll need to eat all your food raw and that's not necessarily true. It's completely unsafe (not to mention unappealing) to eat meat raw because of the many bacteria and viruses that may be found in uncooked meats.

Through the technology available today, we've at least found a way to put back what has been taken out. By taking EnzyMega with meals, we can start replenishing our taxed and sometimes already depleted enzyme accounts.
